In Major League Baseball, a US auction house says on its website that Japanese player Ohtani Shohei's record-breaking home run ball has been auctioned off for 4.392 million dollars.
Ohtani became the first player in Major League history to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season last month in a game against the Miami Marlins.
Ohtani's home run ball had been put up for online auction since September 27 and was auctioned off Tuesday.
The auction house said the price, including handling fees, is the highest on record for a home run ball.
It says on social media the home run ball is "The Most Expensive Ball of Any Sport of All-Time!"
US media reports say the record was held by Mark McGwire's 1998 70th home run ball, which sold for 3.005 million dollars.
Three people are reportedly claiming ownership of the ball, but they agreed to the auction.
