Russian missiles seen targeting Ukraine supply lines NHK

Russian airstrikes in Ukraine killed at least 25 people including children on Friday in attacks some said were focused on supply lines.

Russian cruise missiles and drone strikes pounded Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine.

Twenty-three people, including five children, were killed in the central town of Uman, while a two-year-old girl and her mother were killed in the southeastern city of Dnipro.

As Ukraine prepares for a major counteroffensive, Moscow may step up offensives regardless of the threat to civilian lives.

Meanwhile, rescuers are continuing to search for people believed to be trapped under debris in structures hit by Russian attacks.

Media say one person was killed in Russian shelling in the southern Kherson region, and the governor of the eastern Donetsk region said on social media that one person was killed there.

Britain's defense ministry says the first major wave of cruise missile strikes since early March was unlikely to have been targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. It said the attacks may have intended to intercept Ukrainian reserve units and military supplies.

The ministry says Russia prioritizes perceived military necessity over preventing civilian deaths.
