US employers added far more jobs than the market expected in March. The Labor Department said on Friday that nonfarm payrolls grew by 228,000 from February. Market analysts had expected a figure of around 140,000. The unemployment rate rose by one-tenth of a point to 4.2 percent. Average hourly wages, a key indicator of inflation, climbed 3.8 percent from a year earlier, and by 0.3 percent from the month before.
