A: Hey there! Heard any news recently? B: Not much, just the usual. Why do you ask? A: Well, there's a new nurse coming to join the healthcare team on Akusekijima island next Monday! B: Really? What's been going on there? I thought it was peaceful. A: There've been some earthquakes, mostly around June 21. It's been affecting Akusekijima and another nearby island called Kodakarajima. They're part of the Tokara island chain. B: Oh no! I hope everyone's okay. A: The team there is doing health consultations for the residents. Right now, they have three members - two locals and one who just arrived on Saturday. B: That new nurse must be brave to go there during all this shaking! A: Yeah, a powerful quake hit Akusekijima on Thursday, it was lower 6 on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7. B: Wow, that's really strong! They've already helped 59 residents evacuate to Kagoshima city by ship. The first group arrived last Friday, and another two groups came yesterday and today. A: That's good news. But there are still some people on the islands - 23 on Akusekijima and 41 on Kodakarajima. Mostly livestock farmers. B: I hope they consider evacuating more people if necessary. It's better to be safe than sorry, right? A: Exactly! Let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers, friend. Stay safe out there! ---------------- Another nurse is scheduled to join a healthcare team on a remote southwestern Japanese island that has been rattled by a series of earthquakes. The nurse is to be dispatched to Akusekijima in Toshima Village in Kagoshima Prefecture on Monday. The team carries out such jobs as giving health consultations to residents. It currently consists of three members -- two resident nurses and another who was sent to the island on Saturday. Seismic activity has increased around Akusekijima and Kodakarajima, another island within the village, since June 21. They are part of the Tokara island chain. A powerful quake rocked Akusekijima on Thursday, registering an intensity of lower 6 on the country's scale of zero to 7. Toshima officials have so far helped 59 residents evacuate from the village to the city of Kagoshima by ship. The first group of 13 people from Akusekijima arrived in the city on Friday. The second group of 31 individuals from Akusekijima and another 15 from Kodakarajima reached the city on Sunday. The officials say 23 people remain on Akusekijima while another 41 are on Kodakarajima. Those remaining include livestock farmers. The officials say they will consider organizing more evacuations if they receive requests.
