1. The Former Maekawa Residence in Mibu, Kyoto, is preparing to open its doors after being closed for years. This residence was where the Shinsengumi, a police force of elite samurai warriors, lived and significant events occurred. 2. The East Storehouse within the residence is famous for housing the torture chamber where anti-shogunate rebel Furuta Shuntaro was tortured, leading to the infamous "Ikedaya Incident". It also has a vault with thick walls and safety mechanisms to store valuable gold coins. 3. The residence, currently owned by Hitoshi Tano, is undergoing renovation to make it safe for public access. Crowdfunding campaigns have helped fund these repairs, and the goal is to regularly open the East Storehouse so that Shinsengumi fans can interact with its history.
