Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae has left South Africa for Japan after attending the Group of 20 summit.
Takaichi departed the country on a government plane on Sunday, local time. During the summit in Johannesburg, she exchanged views with world leaders.
During a session on the global economy and the international situation, Takaichi expressed Japan's commitment to discussions on reforms of the World Trade Organization that are acceptable to its members. She said a multilateral free trade system with the WTO at its core is the foundation of the world economy.
On the sidelines of the summit, Takaichi held individual talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others, and confirmed bilateral cooperation in the economy, security and other fields.
Takaichi attended sessions along with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, but they did not approach each other. Attention was focused on whether they would have any contact as Beijing had been reacting sharply to her recent remarks in the Diet about Taiwan.
Takaichi is expected to return home on Monday night, Japan time.
