M5.1 earthquake hits Fukushima Pref. in northeastern Japan NHK

A strong earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.1 hit Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan, at 3:19 p.m. on Friday.

The Meteorological Agency says there is no threat of a tsunami.

The agency says the quake occurred off the coast of the prefecture, with its focus located 30 kilometers deep.

The quake registered at lower 5 on the Japanese seismic scale of zero to 7 in the prefecture's Naraha Town. An intensity of 4 was registered in the towns of Hirono, Tomioka, Okuma and Futaba, as well as in Kawauchi Village, all within the prefecture.
