Officials in Gaza say seven dead in Israeli attack on hospital NHK

Authorities in the Gaza Strip say Israeli forces have killed seven people in another strike on a hospital.

Palestinian officials announced on Sunday that the attack occurred at Al-Wafa hospital in Gaza City. The Israeli military claims it was being used as a command center by Hamas fighters.

Israeli troops stormed another hospital in a northern part of the enclave on Friday, forcing patients and medical workers to evacuate.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for a halt to Israel's attacks on hospitals in a social media post on Monday.

Tedros urged Israel to uphold patients' needs and rights.

Elsewhere in the Middle East, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday that 11 people have died in an explosion at a weapons depot in a suburb of Syria's capital, Damascus.

Experts point out that Israel is concerned about stockpiles of arms in Syria, and has repeatedly attacked weapons depots and other military facilities.
