All-female crew, including Katy Perry, makes space trip on Blue Origin rocket NHK

A US space company says six women, including pop star Katy Perry, have made a short trip to space on board its spaceship.

Blue Origin successfully launched the spacecraft from a launching site in the state of Texas on Monday with the all-female crew, including the singer and journalists.

The spaceship flew beyond an altitude of 100 kilometers into space. The company says the crew experienced weightlessness.

Then it slowly descended using parachutes and touched down on Earth. The flight lasted around 10 minutes.

US media say it was the first time in over 60 years that an all-female crew had been to space.

Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova of the former Soviet Union flew solo to space in 1963 and became the first woman to reach space.

In an interview after returning to Earth, Perry was asked if she will write a song about the experience. She said, "Oh, for sure, 100 percent."

Blue Origin says this was the company's 11th human flight, and those who previously flew to space on its spacecraft included Jeff Bezos, who founded the company, and an actor who starred in the popular science fiction TV drama Star Trek.
