Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi has again asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his country to be excluded from US tariffs, including those on steel and aluminum. The two met on Thursday in the Canadian province of Quebec, where they attend a Group of Seven foreign ministers' meeting. Iwaya told reporters after the meeting: "I conveyed regret to the US Secretary of State that despite Tokyo's requests, additional tariffs had been introduced without an exemption for Japan. I also said that our country should be removed from the list of nations subject to reciprocal duties and auto tariffs." Trump said that he would put in place auto tariffs of about 25 percent around April 2. The move could deal a major blow to Japanese carmakers. Rubio reportedly responded that he considers Japan-US ties extremely important. He said he would convey their discussions with Washington.
