The US news website Politico says the administration of President Joe Biden is planning to speed up the last remaining military assistance to Ukraine before Donald Trump takes office in January, next year. Politico quoted anonymous administration officials as saying that they are planning to rush out the last portion amounting to over 6 billion dollars of a security assistance package before Inauguration Day. The aid package has already been approved by Congress. The Biden Administration's move appears to reflect its concern over whether sufficient US security assistance to Ukraine will continue under the incoming Trump Administration. Trump in the past sounded critical of the Biden administration's military assistance to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media on Thursday that he talked to Trump by phone and congratulated him on his "historic landslide" victory. Zelenskyy said that he and Trump agreed to maintain close dialogue and advance their cooperation. He added, "Strong and unwavering US leadership is vital for the world and for a just peace." In a video address on Wednesday, he expressed his expectation for continued US support, while congratulating Trump's election victory. Zelenskyy said that if "peace through strength" becomes the policy principle of the next US president, America, and the whole world, will undoubtedly benefit from it.
