The UN Secretary-General is set to visit Rohingya camps in Bangladesh. This comes as the World Food Programme is asking the international community for more support to handle funding cuts it says threaten refugees.



Antonio Guterres is scheduled to visit Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar on Friday. It is the world's largest refugee settlement.



The WFP announced last week that a serious shortage of funds could reduce individual food rations for Rohingya refugees. It said monthly rations could fall from 12.5 dollars to 6 dollars, starting in April. The organization said the WFP urgently requires 15 million dollars to sustain full rations for one month.



The WFP warns that any reduction in food assistance will push Rohingya people deeper into hunger.



Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims fled Myanmar in 2017 to escape a brutal military crackdown. Nearly one million refugees now live in camps in neighboring Bangladesh.



Concerns are rising that the crisis in the country will worsen, after US President Donald Trump's administration partially suspended foreign aid programs.
