The governor of Voronezh in western Russia said on Saturday that debris from a drone that had been shot down caused a fire at an ammunition depot. The governor said local residents were forced to evacuate.
Ukrainian military expert Oleksandr Musiienko wrote on social media on Saturday that an ammunition storage facility in the Voronezh region was burning and there were explosions.
He quoted sources as noting that North Korean KN23 missiles were launched from that area. He said the attacks by Ukrainian forces were aimed at easing threats from Russia.
In an exclusive interview with NHK on Friday, a Ukrainian military research institute said Russia is believed to be using North Korean KN23 short-range ballistic missiles, mainly against civilian targets. The Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said the aim is to break the will of Ukrainian citizens.
