Giant 'koinobori' streamer hoisted on riverbank for Children's Day NHK

A giant carp-shaped streamer has been hoisted on the riverbank in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, ahead of Children's Day on Monday.

The annual event took place in Kazo City, known in Japan for its production of carp streamers, called "koinobori."

The huge koinobori measures 100 meters long and weighs 330 kilograms. It was raised by a crane to a height of around 100 meters.

After patchy winds in the morning, the streamer caught the breeze and began to float slowly. It delighted onlookers who gathered and took photos.

A man with an elementary school boy said he had never seen a carp streamer so large, and he hopes his children will grow big like a koinobori.
