The Japanese government is considering inviting leaders of the Group of Seven nations to view one of the country&#039;s most famous Shinto shrines on the western Japan island of Itsukushima, known as Miyajima, Hiroshima Prefecture.
                
The G7 summit is scheduled to be held in the city of Hiroshima between May 19 and 21.
                
Sources say government officials are planning a session over a meal and other events on Miyajima during the summit period.
                
The island is home to Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
                
The shrine&#039;s grand torii gate rises from the sea at a width of 24 meters and height of 16 meters.
                
It has recently undergone its first large-scale restoration in about 70 years.
                
The imposing gate has been designated a national important cultural property.
                
The government apparently aims to promote the appeal of Japan&#039;s scenery and culture, with G7 leaders sending a message together at one of Hiroshima&#039;s landmarks.
                
Officials are considering security of the plan, as the island is mainly accessible only by ferry.
