Japan Airlines has announced a major aircraft purchase. The company says it will buy 42 new jets as it aims to expand its international offerings while boosting fuel efficiency with the latest models. The firm says it will buy 32 planes from European aviation giant Airbus and 10 from US manufacturer Boeing. The company says that based on the list price of the jets, the deal will be worth 1.8 trillion yen or about 12.8 billion dollars. JAL president Akasaka Yuji said: "As inbound tourism to Japan increases, I'm confident that demand for flights to and from the country will continue to rise. We aim to tap into this demand to drive our growth." The company says it will strengthen business mainly in international flights as the economy recovers from the pandemic. It plans to expand its international services 40 percent by fiscal 2030. The carrier also hopes to further reduce CO2 emissions by adopting the latest fuel-efficient aircraft.
