South Korea to provide $3 million for quake relief for Japan's Noto Peninsula NHK

South Korea says it will provide 3 million dollars in humanitarian aid for Japan's recovery efforts from the quake that struck the Noto Peninsula on New Year's Day.

South Korea's government announced the assistance on Thursday.

The country's foreign ministry said it hopes the aid will help the quake-hit region's recovery and allow affected residents to swiftly return to their normal lives.

On January 2, South Korea's presidential office revealed that President Yoon Suk-yeol sent a message to Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio offering his condolences to the quake victims and their bereaved families.

The office also said Yoon expressed his intention to help Japan's recovery efforts and his wish that residents in disaster-hit areas will be able to return to their normal lives as soon as possible.
