Canadian convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard says it is disappointed at how Japan's Seven & i Holdings is handling its buyout proposal. The two companies have been in discussions over an acquisition bid worth 7 trillion yen, or more than 47 billion dollars. The operator of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain announced on Monday it had presented the Canadian firm with preconditions for continuing the buyout talks. One of the terms is that Couche-Tard sells at least 2,000 of its outlets in the US. That accounts for around 30 percent of the total in the country. Seven & i says the integration of the top two convenience store chains in the US would lead to complications with antitrust law. Couche-Tard responded on Monday, saying Seven & i's engagement in the talks has been very limited. It says the Japanese firm is focused only on US regulatory approval. The Canadian firm also says it is confident it can find credible buyers if and when it decides to sell its US outlets. It adds it has been in talks with US regulators about the sell-off plan and is working toward an agreement.
