South Korea's presidential office says President Yoon Suk-yeol will visit Hiroshima later this week to attend the Group of Seven summit in the city. South Korea's Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo officially announced on Sunday that Yoon will make a three-day visit to Hiroshima from Friday at the invitation of Japan, the chair of the summit. Kim says Yoon plans to attend an "outreach meeting," where the leaders of the G7 nations as well as other relevant countries are scheduled to discuss various global challenges. Yoon also plans to take part in a trilateral summit with US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio. They are expected to discuss the ongoing threats posed by North Korea's nuclear and missile development, and ways to enhance the supply chains of semiconductors and other vital products. Yoon also plans to make a joint visit with Kishida to a monument dedicated to South Korean victims of the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima. The official stressed the significance of the joint visit to the monument. He noted that it will provide an opportunity for the two nations to remember the victims and renew their commitment to work together to prepare for a future of peace and prosperity.
