The US government has banned the import and sale telecommunications and surveillance devices made by some Chinese tech giants including Huawei and ZTE. The US Federal Communications Commission announced on Friday the prohibited devices pose "an unacceptable risk to national security." The new rules also affect telecommunications and video surveillance cameras made by Hytera and two other companies. The devices are designed for use in public safety, security at government facilities, surveillance of critical infrastructure and for use in national security settings. The administration of President Joe Biden announced last month that it would tighten regulations on exports of semiconductor-related products to China that could be used for military applications.
