Russian forces continue to target infrastructure facilities in Ukraine through the year-end period.
                
Russian troops reportedly mounted drone attacks on the capital Kyiv on Friday. This followed major Russian offensives using missiles and drones the previous day on infrastructure facilities in Kyiv and elsewhere around Ukraine.
                
The Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank, reported on Friday that &quot;Russian forces targeted Kyiv using Iranian-made drones on the night of December 29 to 30, a continuation of an increased pace of drone attacks in Ukraine.&quot;
                
The institute also pointed out that &quot;Russian forces have likely further increased their pace of drone attacks in an effort to sustain their campaign against Ukrainian critical infrastructure given their likely depleted stock of precision missiles.&quot;
                
The Ukrainian side says its forces had shot down 39 drones that flew into the country from Thursday through Friday.
                
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video posted on Friday that Ukrainian air defenses have been made &quot;stronger than ever.&quot; He added that in the new year, it will become &quot;even stronger, even more effective,&quot; stressing his country&#039;s position countering Russian attacks based on planned military support from the United States and European nations.
                
In an interview with BBC on Thursday, Ukraine&#039;s Defense Intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said he believes that the Kremlin has decided to announce another mobilization.
                
Speaking in Russian on a video clip released on Friday, Ukraine&#039;s defense minister Oleksii Reznikov said that he wants to inform the people of Russia before New Year&#039;s Day that Russian authorities plan to declare martial law and launch a new mobilization program in early January.
                
The administration of Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in October that it had completed the mobilization of 300,000 reservists. Putin stressed on December 7 that there are no plans to mobilize any additional personnel.
                
Earlier this month, independent Russian media cited a new wave of mobilization in January without any official announcement.
