Japan's weather agency working to fix Himawari satellite image issue NHK

The Japan Meteorological Agency says it is still working to resolve issues with the country's weather satellite, Himawari.

The agency publishes images from Himawari online, showing cloud patterns by using infrared radiation the satellite receives from Earth.

Agency officials said the images have failed to display properly since around 4 a.m. on Monday.

Their investigation found that there were problems with the onboard equipment responsible for receiving infrared radiation from clouds and water vapor.

They said that after some adjustments, images began displaying again in the afternoon.

The officials said the glitch will not affect the agency's ability to issue advisories or warnings. But they mentioned that they will consider switching to a backup satellite depending on the situation.

An agency official in charge apologized for the inconvenience and asked for patience as recovery work continues.
