US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will meet Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen in California on Wednesday. His office said in a statement that the speaker will host a bipartisan meeting with Tsai on April 5. It's still unclear who will attend the meeting. China hard-liners, including Mike Gallagher, the chair of a US congressional panel on China, are expected to be among the attendees. Tsai is on a tour of two Central American nations by way of New York. Officials say she will make a stopover in Los Angeles before heading back to Taiwan. A delegation led by Michael McCaul, the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is slated to visit Taiwan later this week for talks with Tsai, according to US congressional sources. China has said it opposes official relations between the US and Taiwan in any form.
