Major Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel says it has struck a deal to acquire United States Steel for about 14 billion dollars. Nippon Steel says US Steel will become one of its subsidiaries by the end of 2024 after obtaining approval from the shareholders of the Pittsburg-based company. Nippon Steel says the acquisition is aimed at boosting its business in the US, where demand for steel materials is expected to grow steadily.
