Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son have agreed to work for regional stability based on international law. Vietnam's state-run media says the two exchanged views on trade and security at a meeting on Wednesday in Hanoi. Taking up the South China Sea, they agreed on the importance of peace and stability, citing the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, adopted in 1982. Retno said, "Without respect for international law, it will be difficult to maintain peace and stability, like what's happening in other regions." Retno added that the two countries will also continue working for peace in the broader Indo-Pacific region.
