Kishida touts Japan's new defense policy in talks with Biden NHK

Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has wrapped up a summit with US President Joe Biden at the White House.

At the onset of the talks, Kishida told Biden that their two countries are facing a complex security environment.

Kishida also said a major shift in Japan's security policy will contribute to the deterrence of their alliance.

The changes include large defense budget increases and the capability to launch counterstrikes.

Kishida is visiting the United States on the last leg of a tour of five Group of Seven nations.

Japan holds the G7 presidency this year and will host the annual summit this May in Hiroshima.
