Dangerously hot conditions have once again prevailed across wide areas of Japan. Weather officials are continuing to warn about heatstroke for Tuesday as well. The Meteorological Agency says temperatures soared on Monday due to a high-pressure system mainly over western and eastern Japan. Daytime highs hit 39.5 degrees Celsius in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, 39.3 in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, and 39 in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. Scorching heat is expected for Tuesday. Temperatures are forecast to reach a dangerous high of 38 degrees in Kurume City, 37 in Osaka and Yamaguchi cities, and 36 in Nagoya and Takamatsu cities. The Meteorological Agency and the Environment Ministry have issued heatstroke alerts for 25 prefectures, mainly in western Japan. People are advised to refrain from going out and exercising. The public is also being urged to use air conditioning indoors and to consume adequate amounts of fluids and salt. People are also asked to keep a close eye on infants and the elderly, who are at higher risk of developing heatstroke.
