Leaders of the Group of 20 economies meeting in Bali, Indonesia, are in discussions to issue a summit declaration amid a row over Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are among those attending the two-day summit, which ends on Wednesday. Western countries and Russia on Tuesday traded barbs over the cause of soaring energy and food prices. A draft of the leaders' declaration obtained by NHK says, "Most members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine." But it also shows efforts to reflect views of countries not taking part in economic sanctions against Russia. The draft notes, "There were other views and different assessments of the situation and sanctions." European diplomatic sources on Tuesday said the leaders will likely reach an agreement on the declaration. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, "The West added the phrase that 'many delegations condemned Russia'," but his country "made sure that alternative views were outlined as well," and Russian delegates believe "this is quite enough." The foreign minister participated in the G20 talks on behalf of President Vladimir Putin. Russia's state-run media say Lavrov left the summit on Tuesday. Chair country Indonesia is making a last ditch effort on Wednesday to coordinate the release of the summit declaration.
