N.Korean leader's sister denounces S.Korea's mention of more sanctions NHK

The sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has lashed out against South Korea for considering more unilateral sanctions on the North, saying such measures would add fuel to Pyongyang's anger.

Kim Yo Jong's statement on Thursday came after remarks by a spokesperson for South Korea's foreign ministry.

The spokesperson said on Tuesday that Seoul is considering additional sanctions if the North makes a major provocation such as a nuclear test.

Kim Yo Jong said if the US and South Korea are bent on imposing sanctions, North Korea will let them do so a thousand times.
She also denounced South Korea's President Yoon Suk-yeol. Yoon has sought close cooperation with the United States.

Referring to Yoon's predecessor, she said Seoul was not North Korea's target when Moon Jae-in was in power.

She said the desperate sanctions and pressure from the US and South Korea will fuel the North's hostility and anger. She added that such moves would serve as a noose for the two countries.

Kim Yo Jong also issued a statement on Tuesday denouncing the US.

South Korean experts say the North may make further provocations while claiming the need to counter pressure from the US and South Korea.
