Former Malaysian PM Mahathir hospitalized NHK

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been hospitalized with a respiratory infection. But the 99-year-old is reportedly in stable condition.

A spokesperson says Mahathir was admitted to the National Heart Institute on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur, and will be on medical leave until October 25th.

The spokesperson says he is being treated for a lower respiratory tract infection.

The former leader underwent heart surgery in 2022. He was also hospitalized in January and July this year.

Mahathir was due in court on Wednesday for a defamation case he filed two years ago against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Local media say the hearing has been postponed.
