Emergency heavy rain warning in Japan may be expanded NHK

Japan's Meteorological Agency has held a news conference after issuing the maximum level-5 heavy rain emergency warning for Yoron town, Kagoshima Prefecture.

An official said the emergency warning may be expanded to include other areas.

He urged people in the areas to take immediate measures to secure their safety, and to act in accordance with local evacuation information.

He said ongoing weather conditions mean the current warning may not be lifted before Saturday evening.
