United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi is hailing the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. He says it must pave the way for truce in Gaza.
Grandi spoke to NHK on Wednesday. He is in Tokyo seeking support from Japan's public and private sectors.
He said: "I'm very happy that the ceasefire was finally agreed after many weeks of negotiations. And I do hope, I do hope, we must all hope that it holds."
Grandi previously served as the Commissioner-General of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
He added: "There's a lot more that needs to happen in the Middle East. There is a ceasefire in Gaza as well that we have been waiting for a long time. And then ceasefires themselves are not enough. You have to have meaningful peace agreements in order to make sure that peace is durable. So this is all work to be done."
Grandi says humanitarian aid must reach those people in need.
