At least 10 people have died in central Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture. The area was hit by torrential downpours over the weekend. Rescue crews are combing through Wajima City. On Wednesday, they found the body of a 68-year-old female resident. Prefectural officials say seven people are still missing or unaccounted for. Six-teen communities in the cities of Wajima, Suzu, and Noto Town remain isolated due to flooding and landslides. As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 157 people remain stranded. Locals have started taking part in the recovery efforts. Wajima residents were seen moving furniture and other household items to a temporary waste disposal site. Organizations are also stepping in to help the victims. One group has started lending vehicles to people who lost their own cars in the disaster.
