1. A survey by Japanese matchmaking service Zwei found that most women (69.8%) and men (73.1%) in past relationships have had a kokuhaku, or direct confession of feelings, to become an official couple.

2. However, when asked about their ideal way to start a new relationship, more women (52%) than men (40.4%) prefer a formal kokuhaku, while many want a friendship-turned-romance (32% women, 40.4% men).

3. The survey showed that in past relationships with kokuhakus, it was overwhelmingly the men who confessed their feelings first (78.1% and 89.5% of respondents respectively). Despite this, most people believe it's acceptable for either party to confess first.
