China's National People's Congress concluded its annual meeting on Monday. Observers say a revised law gives President Xi Jinping further influence.
Nearly 3,000 delegates took part in the final day's session at the Great Hall of the People.
They approved seven resolutions by an overwhelming majority. These included the government work report that targets this year's economic growth at around 5 percent, as well as the budget with a 7.2 percent increase in defense spending.
The Congress also passed a revision of the Organic Law of the State Council. It calls on the government to uphold Xi's guiding principles and ensures continued leadership by the Communist Party.
Premier Li Qiang did not hold a news conference after the Congress closed, even though such a briefing has occurred for over 30 years.
Officials say the premier's annual news conference will not be held in the coming years.
Some observers say this indicates a further decline of the influence of the premier, who is No. 2 in the Communist Party and the government's top official.
