China&#039;s National People&#039;s Congress concluded its annual meeting on Monday. Observers say a revised law gives President Xi Jinping further influence.
                
Nearly 3,000 delegates took part in the final day&#039;s session at the Great Hall of the People.
                
They approved seven resolutions by an overwhelming majority. These included the government work report that targets this year&#039;s economic growth at around 5 percent, as well as the budget with a 7.2 percent increase in defense spending.
                
The Congress also passed a revision of the Organic Law of the State Council. It calls on the government to uphold Xi&#039;s guiding principles and ensures continued leadership by the Communist Party.
                
Premier Li Qiang did not hold a news conference after the Congress closed, even though such a briefing has occurred for over 30 years.
                
Officials say the premier&#039;s annual news conference will not be held in the coming years.
                
Some observers say this indicates a further decline of the influence of the premier, who is No. 2 in the Communist Party and the government&#039;s top official.
