Japanese government sources say officials from about 50 companies are expected to accompany Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on his upcoming visits to countries in Central Asia.

Kishida's trip will begin on Friday. He plans to visit Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The prime minister will attend a summit meeting of regional leaders. He will also hold one-on-one talks with some of the leaders.

The sources say representatives from about 50 Japanese firms are expected to accompany Kishida. They are likely to confirm plans to cooperate with local companies in various sectors.

The Japanese and local companies are expected to cooperate on efforts, such as the development of decarbonization and digital medical technology.

An insurance framework, which will allow companies to cover losses on investments and trade, is also expected to be set up to encourage Japanese firms to export to or invest in the region. A five-year, 300-billion-yen credit line is reportedly going to be set up.

Central Asian countries are known for their rich natural resources. Russia and China have been engaging more with those nations, partly due to their historical ties and geographical proximity.

Japan has also held dialogues and high-level talks with countries in Central Asia over the last 20 years.

Japan hopes to enhance its economic security by deepening relations with those countries and working together with them on public and private sector projects.
