A: Hey! Did you catch the news yesterday?
   B: Not yet, what's up?

A: Well, it looks like Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook is planning to sue President Donald Trump!
   B: What?! Why is that?

A: Seems like Trump wrote her a letter on Monday saying she made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements, and fired her on the spot.
   B: Oh wow, that's serious! But I thought they could only be removed for cause, right?

A: That's true, but Cook's lawyer says Trump's demands lack any proper process, basis, or legal authority. You see, her term doesn't expire until 2038.
   B: So she thinks she was unjustly fired then?

A: Yeah! Trump said he has cause to remove her because of this supposed infraction. Apparently, she's in charge of mortgages, so it might affect housing if they replace her with a Trump loyalist.
   B: That sounds like quite the mess... It could undermine the Fed's independence if Cook is ousted, right?

A: Exactly! Many are concerned about that. Trump has been pushing for lower interest rates, you know.
