The International Energy Agency predicts that the global market for clean energy technologies, such as solar panels and electric vehicles, will triple in seven years. The IEA said in its report on Thursday that the market will be worth around 650 billion dollars a year by 2030. That's more than three times as much as today's level. It said by that year the related clean energy manufacturing jobs would more than double to nearly 14 million. At the same time, the agency pointed out the current high geographic concentrations of resource mining and processing as well as technology manufacturing. The agency said Australia, Chile and China account for more than 90 percent of the global production of lithium, an essential material for EV batteries. It also said China dominates the manufacturing of solar panels, EV batteries and components of wind power generators. The report said buyers that depend on a single country or trade route risk paying a heavy price if it is disrupted, citing Europe's reliance on Russian gas. It said the world would benefit from "more diversified clean technology supply chains." The agency called for fair competition by many economies around the world to drive an expansion of clean technology manufacturing.
