Russia's presidential office says President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit Kyrgyzstan in October and hold talks with the president of Belarus, a Russian ally. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced the plan on Tuesday. Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he would meet Putin in Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia on October 15. Leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States, or CIS, are scheduled to hold a summit in Kyrgyzstan on October 13. The CIS is made up of former Soviet republics, including Belarus and Central Asian nations. Putin may attend the summit in a bid to confirm the unity of former Soviet countries. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin in connection with Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The president did not attend a BRICS summit in South Africa in August in person. But he is now expected to visit China next month and meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. The recent moves appear to suggest that Putin is set to step up his diplomatic activities.
