Visitors have sampled cuisines and enjoyed cultural performances at an international exchange event in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture. The central Japan city is home to many foreign residents. Vietnamese sandwiches and Turkish kebabs were among the different types of food on offer at Sunday's event -- the first in three years. There was also music and dancing. The performances included capoeira, a traditional Brazilian martial art. Donations were collected to help people affected by Monday's powerful earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. A woman from Indonesia said she had a good time experiencing various cultures. Suzuki Erika is an official of the Hamamatsu Foundation for International Communication and Exchange. Suzuki notes that people from about 90 countries live in Hamamatsu. She says the foundation plans to provide more opportunities for residents to interact with each other.
