More than 3,200 companies from around the globe are taking part in CES 2023, one of the world's biggest technology trade fairs, now underway in Las Vegas. Companies are showcasing their latest products, from high-definition TVs to smartphones and electric cars. The fair has an overall theme for the first time: "Human Security for All." Consumer Technology Association CEO Gary Shapiro says, "That theme is focused on what technology can do to make the world better." The goal is to use technology not only to make things fun and convenient, but to address global problems, like food security and the environment. US farm machinery maker John Deere is showcasing a tractor that uses a camera to instantly detect weeds. It then sprays on chemicals with precise accuracy using AI. The company also has a machine that can do unmanned farm work using a smartphone app. John Deere says it wants to increase food production efficiency. The US firm OVR Technology is showcasing VR equipment that makes it possible to smell things in the metaverse. The company says pleasant aromas will help ease people's stress. The event is taking place through January 8. Organizers expect about 100,000 visitors, more than double the number last year.
