Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier have agreed on the need to keep sanctions on Russia and support Ukraine. The two leaders met in Tokyo on Tuesday during Steinmeier's stay in Japan. They shared their concerns about Russia's invasion of Ukraine and threats to use nuclear weapons. They agreed to continue strong sanctions on Moscow and support Ukraine to achieve an immediate end to the invasion. Kishida and Steinmeier also agreed on the recognition that security in Europe and in Asia are inseparable. They agreed to step up cooperation to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific. China is increasing its presence there. They also confirmed that the two countries will work together to lead the Group of Seven nations to tackle issues facing the international community. Germany is this year's G7 host, and Japan will be the host next year.
