Macron: France, UK to send team to Ukraine to plan for proposed troop deployment NHK

France's president says his country and Britain will send a joint team to Ukraine in the next few days to plan for a proposed troop deployment to help secure a possible ceasefire in the country.



Emmanuel Macron spoke to reporters on Thursday after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as leaders of nearly 30 countries, NATO and the European Union, met in Paris earlier in the day.



Macron said the participants unanimously agreed that the time was not right to lift sanctions on Russia.



The remark comes as Russia says some of the sanctions must be removed for its agreement with the United States over safety in the Black Sea to take effect.



The White House said on Tuesday that the US had agreed with Russia and Ukraine to ensure safe navigation and eliminate the use of force in the Black Sea.



Zelenskyy said Russian President Vladimir Putin is not ready for direct negotiations. He added he is not afraid of any format of negotiations.
