A US F-16 fighter jet crashed into the Yellow Sea on Monday morning. The pilot was rescued after ejecting from the aircraft. US forces in South Korea announced that the crash occurred during a training flight over waters west of the Korean Peninsula. They say the pilot is "awake and in stable condition." Multiple local media reports say the jet took off from an air force base in Gunsan, southwest of Seoul, and fell into the waters off the city. The base is used jointly by the US and South Korean militaries. South Korean public broadcaster KBS says no damage has been reported on fishers or fishing boats operating in the area. The US military says that the cause of the accident is unknown and that it will conduct an investigation. In May, another US F-16 fighter jet crashed into farmland in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul. The pilot also ejected safely, and there were no civilian casualties.
