An event in Tokyo has showcased products co-developed by Japanese and Philippine firms with the theme of a recycling-oriented society.

The Philippine government hosted the event on Sunday on the sidelines of the special summit marking 50 years of friendship between Japan and ASEAN.

Japanese and Philippine government officials and business people from the two countries were among those taking part.

A fashion show featured kimonos made from cloth produced from banana stems and silk. The Philippines is a major producer of the fruit.

The maker says the banana fabric has a soft, light texture.
The participants sampled chocolates made by a Japanese retailer and Philippine firm with a focus on sustainability.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who is visiting Japan for the ASEAN summit, spoke at the gathering.

He called on the international community to meet the growing need for further cooperation for a sustainable future, and called for stronger Japan-Philippine relations.
