Japanese Prime Minister Kishida to visit Indonesia and India next month NHK

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio will visit Indonesia and India next month for a series of international summits.

Kishida revealed at a meeting of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's senior officials on Tuesday that he will be on tour from September 5 to 11.

In Indonesia, he will attend a summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, and other meetings.

Kishida noted that this year marks 50 years of friendship between Japan and ASEAN. He added that he hopes to further strengthen ties in the run-up to the commemorative summit in Tokyo in December.

In India, Kishida will attend the summit of the Group of 20 economies.

He said the G20 leaders will discuss issues such as how Russia's invasion of Ukraine is affecting global food security.

Kishida said as chair of the Group of Seven, he aims to link the achievements of the G7 summit held in Hiroshima in May to the upcoming G20 summit.
