Poland to provide fighter jets to Ukraine NHK

Poland says it will send four fighter jets to Ukraine within the next few days. Western media outlets say when it does so, Poland will become the first NATO nation to provide such aircraft to Kyiv.

Polish President Andrzej Duda made an announcement about the move in Warsaw on Thursday. The planes that will be provided are Soviet-made MiG-29 jets. Duda suggested that his country is prepared to hand over more of them later.

Slovakia, another neighbor of Ukraine, has also suggested that it will send Kyiv MiGs.

Ukraine has asked the United States to provide F16 fighter jets, but Washington has so far been reluctant to do so.
