US Vice President Kamala Harris called for unity on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday.
                
She first praised President Joe Biden and thanked him for his &quot;historic leadership&quot; and &quot;lifetime of service.&quot; She said, &quot;We are forever grateful to you.&quot;
                
She told the audience that they are united by a shared vision for the future of their country. She added that in November, they will declare with one voice that they are moving forward with optimism, hope and faith.
                
She concluded, &quot;Let us fight for the ideals we hold dear, and let us always remember when we fight, we win.&quot;
The four-day convention kicked off with the party adopting its policy platform that advocates for economic growth by supporting the lower and middle classes.
                
The platform also emphasizes the party&#039;s support for legal abortion rights, especially in light of recent measures to restrict the procedure in states led primarily by Republican governors.
                
At the end of the convention, President Joe Biden reiterated his support for Harris.
