Thailand&#039;s same-sex marriage law will come into effect next week. Government officials at a public event promised that LGBTQ couples will be able to smoothly register their marriages.
                
The Thai government and the United Nations co-hosted the celebration on Monday. In attendance were the country&#039;s provincial governors, embassy officials and LGBTQ advocates.
                
Thai Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said, &quot;We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring seamless and lawful marriage registration for all couples, fostering trust in a system that values diversity and upholds individuals&#039; dignity.&quot;
                
The new law guarantees same-sex couples the same rights as those in heterosexual unions, including tax benefits, inheritance and adoption rights.
                
A participant said, &quot;It&#039;s just such a great thing to see that our love will be recognized finally and we can take responsibility of each other&#039;s life.&quot;
                
The law goes into effect from January 23.  A marriage registration event will take place that day in Bangkok, with about 300 couples tying the knot.
